Absences allowed
For every 100 classes, a 75% rule allows 25 absences and an 80% rule allows 20. That's a fifth fewer absences at 80%.
Recovering from a shortage
Say you've attended 35 of 50 classes, which is 70%.
| Target | Classes to attend in a row | Where you end up |
|---|---|---|
| 75% | 10 | 45 of 60 = 75% |
| 80% | 25 | 60 of 75 = 80% |
The same shortage takes two and a half times as many classes to fix at 80%. A gap that's easy to close early in a semester at 75% may be impossible to close at 80% near the end.
Earning room to miss
At 75%, every 3 classes you attend earn one more class you can miss. At 80%, it takes 4. Attendance recovers more slowly at higher targets.
Which rule applies to you
Requirements differ between universities, courses and even subjects, and some colleges set different limits for theory and practicals. Check your college's regulations or ask your department, and use that target in the calculator.
Try your own target
The attendance calculator works out your percentage, the classes you can miss and the classes you need, for 75%, 80%, 85% or any target.
