How the calculator works
Attendance percentage = classes attended ÷ classes conducted × 100.
Classes you can miss = attended ÷ target − conducted, rounded down. This is how many classes in a row you could skip and still be at or above your target.
Classes needed = (target × conducted − attended) ÷ (1 − target), rounded up. This is how many classes in a row you must attend to get back to your target. The target is used as a decimal, so 75% is 0.75.
A worked example
Say a subject has conducted 36 classes and you attended 30. That's 83.3%. Here is what each common target allows:
| Target | You can miss | You need | Check |
|---|---|---|---|
| 75% | 4 classes | 0 | 30 of 40 = 75% |
| 80% | 1 class | 0 | 30 of 37 = 81.1% |
| 85% | 0 | 4 classes | 34 of 40 = 85% |
What the calculator can't know
- Whether your college counts theory, labs and tutorials separately.
- Medical leave, condonation or other exceptions your college allows.
- How your college rounds: 74.6% may or may not count as 75%. Don't plan on rounding in your favour.
When in doubt, your college's own records and rules are what count.
